Elwy Valley Villages

If you leave the coast and head inland to you will find the picturesque Elwy Valley and its villages. The pretty village of Llanfair Talhaearn on the banks of the River Elwy is a great centre for fishing and walking. Llansanan, in the vale of the River Aled, is the place to discover the village’s literary connections, having had a number of famous residents through the years, such as Tudur Aled, William Salesbury, William Rees and Tara Bethan. There is an insight into Welsh rural history at the Sir Henry Jones Museum in picturesque Llangernyw and in the churchyard you can see the 5000 year-old yew tree, officially the oldest living thing in Wales. See the ancient inscribed standing stones at the churchyard of St Winifred’s, in Gwytherin on the River Cledwen. There are a number of and friendly country pubs in this area, and the traditional country inn restaurants serve good food and fine wines and ales.
